When and how you can get a refund on GiftNote credits

Our refund philosophy

GiftNote is built on a simple promise: you pay only for songs you actually receive. Our system is designed so that failed, abandoned, or incomplete generations never cost you a credit in the first place. But when something goes wrong after delivery, we still want to make it right.

This page explains exactly when refunds are available.

You're already covered if generation fails

Before we talk about refunds, here's how our billing already protects you:

  • 1 credit is charged only when a song is fully generated AND a share link is created. That's the end of a successful flow.
  • Any failure before that point — lyrics didn't work, music generation timed out, browser closed mid-flow, or any other error — is automatically free. No credit is deducted. No refund needed.
  • You can see this for yourself: in the My Songs page, incomplete songs are labeled "Incomplete — no charge" and clearly indicate that no credit was taken.

So if you tried to generate a song and something went wrong, you already paid nothing. There is no refund to request because there is no charge.

When you can request a refund

Refunds are available in these specific situations:

1. Billing bug (always refunded)

If our system deducted a credit despite the song not being fully delivered — for example, you see "Charged 1 credit" on a song that never finished generating — this is a bug on our end. Email us and we will refund immediately, no questions asked.

2. Song quality severely below expectations (case by case)

AI output is probabilistic, and sometimes results fall short of what you expected. We reserve discretion here because "didn't love it" is different from "objectively broken." Contact us with:

  • The song's share URL
  • What specifically went wrong (garbled lyrics, unlistenable audio, completely unrelated style, etc.)
  • Whether you want us to re-generate for free OR refund the credit

We will try to re-generate first (free retry). If you prefer a refund and the issue is genuine, we will refund.

3. Duplicate charge or payment error

If you see a duplicate payment, wrong amount, or charge you did not authorize, email us immediately. We will investigate within 24 hours and refund any confirmed errors.

4. Service outage after payment

If you purchased credits and our service went down before you could use them, and we could not restore access within 7 days, you can request a full refund on the unused credits.

5. Change of mind within 7 days (limited)

If you purchased credits within the last 7 days and have not used any of them (your credit balance is exactly the amount you purchased), you can request a refund. Partially-used credit packages are not refundable under this policy, since we have already incurred generation costs for the songs you received.

When refunds are NOT available

We will decline refund requests in these cases:

  • You received completed songs. If your songs were successfully generated and delivered, they are yours to keep. We have incurred real generation costs to deliver them.
  • More than 7 days have passed since a change-of-mind request (see section 5 above).
  • Your account was terminated for Terms of Service violations. In this case, remaining credits are forfeit as described in our Terms of Service.
  • You used the free trial credit and did not like the result. Free credits cannot be refunded because no payment was made.
  • You attempted fraud or abuse. Chargebacks, disputed payments with no prior contact, or bulk refund requests may result in account termination.

How to request a refund

  1. Email us at support@giftnote.ai from the email address on your account.
  2. Include:
    • Your account email
    • The transaction ID or date of purchase (shown in your payment confirmation email)
    • Which song(s) the refund is about (share URL if applicable)
    • A brief explanation of why you are requesting a refund
  3. We respond within 24–48 hours on business days.

Processing time

  • Review: We review your request within 2 business days.
  • Approval: If approved, we process the refund within 1 business day.
  • Delivery: Refunds typically return to your original payment method within 5 to 10 business days, depending on your card issuer and country.

What happens to songs after a refund

If we refund the credits used to generate a specific song, that song will be removed from your account. You agree that you will not continue to use, download, share, or distribute the removed song after the refund is processed.

If we refund an entire credit package, any unused credits from that package are also removed.

Canceling vs. refunding

GiftNote does not have recurring subscriptions, so there is nothing to "cancel" in the traditional sense. You can stop using the service at any time without any action. Credits you have already purchased remain valid until their 60-day expiry window.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Refund Policy as the service evolves. Changes will be announced at least 14 days in advance via email or a site banner. The most recent version is always available at giftnote.ai/refund.
